First Week of Ballykin for 2023

Children & adults take time to settle into a new environment, so remember it’s totally normal to feel worried about starting something new.

Below are some great tips to help during the transition and settling period when your child starts Kindy for the first time.

▫️Get organised early ▫️

Taking care of practical things like lunches and clothes labels the night before (or earlier) will reduce the stress of trying to get out the door. This means you can focus on your child and how they’re feeling on child care mornings. If your morning at home is calm, you’re both more likely to be calm when you say goodbye.

▫️Stay with your child ▫️

It’s good to make time to stay with your child as they get used to being without you at child care. You could read a book together, play quietly or watch your child do activities. As you and your child become more comfortable at child care, you’ll develop a drop-off routine that works for both of you.

▫️Say goodbye▫️

When it’s time to go, let your child know you’re going and when you’ll be back. Give your child a hug and a kiss, say goodbye to your child’s educator and leave promptly. This makes it easier for your child to settle down with their educator.

▫️Build a relationship with your child’s educators▫️

Your child is more likely to feel secure in the new child care setting if they see that you have good relationships with early childhood educators. If your child can see that you trust their educator, your child is more likely to trust the educator too.

▫️Allow plenty of down time at home ▫️

Child care is very stimulating. Your child will probably be tired and need recovery time at home. This might mean an earlier bedtime or longer naps, or maybe just quiet play in a familiar environment.

This week we had a special visit from Miss Simpson

This week we had a special visit from Miss Simpson and Miss Thomson from McAuley Primary School who came in to chat to our preschoolers about what to expect next year at Primary School.
📚📐🖍📝

They mentioned how impressed they were with our preschoolers big school sitting, strong postures and how the children raised their hands when they wanted to share something.

They also told us that they were a little scared about coming to see us today. Everyone gets nervous, and we all have to be brave sometimes.

As Azalea told us- Brave means fighting your feelings.

A full day excursion to find the Green Sheep! The children put on their new raincoats from mknordika_kids and went on a treasure hunt organised by mosmancouncil. Each sheep they found gave them another clue they had to decipher to find the next location. They made their way across many known landmarks in Mosman, visiting the Council, fountain, village green, Art Gallery, Youth Centre, park, shops, cafe and finally found the elusive green sheep mosmanlibrary. A great day out and a Green Sheep prize!

Emotions are an important topic in the Wallaby Room at Ballykin ELC Rose Bay. By talking about and showing the children different emotions they begin to recognise their feelings and start to empathise with other children and adult’s feelings.
