National Schools Tree Planting Day at Ballykin Rose Bay
Today was National Schools Tree Planting Day and we were lucky enough to have one of our local First Nations friends Terry come in to plant our very own Mulberry Tree. It was such fun for the children and they loved getting their hands dirty prepping the soil ready for planting.
The children helped with digging, weeding, planting and watering our garden. And what a wonderful end to the day they had too, by going on an excursion to climb all the wonderful big trees around Rose Bay… safely, and fully supervised!
The children learnt that planting a tree not only benefits those who live near it, but also the wider population as they enhance air quality, slow down soil erosion in heavy rains, remove carbon from the atmosphere and provide shade on hot sunny days.

Tree Day is a great way to inspire students to learn about the local environment while playing an active role in their community. Activities range from planting bush tucker gardens, building habitat for native wildlife, nature play, and our annual school competition.
